Design . . .
First, there's the design, guaranteed to make it stand out among your appliances. The Brewstation is encased in sleek black plastic, with shimmering silver highlights. A glowing blue display frames the programmable clock, giving this Hamilton Beach coffee maker the appearance of a machine from the future.
It gets better . . .
The biggest innovation with this coffee brewer is how it offers a solution to an annoying problem that plagues the typical automatic drip machine: coffee "burning" from sitting on a warming plate for too long, resulting in that awful scorched taste that every java lover despises.
The Brewstation doesn't use a warming plate. At all.
Instead, the Hamilton Beach 12 Cup Brewstation uses a thermal-insulated tank that holds your brew nice and hot for up to four hours. When you want a cuppa joe, you simply place your mug on the dispensing tray and gently press it against a trigger--dispensing steaming hot coffee, one cup at a time. There's no thermal carafe to clean. No leaky glass decanter that might break. All of the coffee is contained within the brewer's tank.
Four brew settings . . .
Choose normal brewed coffee, enhanced flavor, 1 – 4 cups, or decaf. (The "decaf" setting still requires using decaf coffee grounds, by the way--it's simply a setting to improve the flavor of decaf coffee.)
Programmable clock . . .
And yes, that ice-blue backlit clock includes a programmable timer. Set the timer before you go to bed, and wake up to the aroma of your favorite java.
Speaking of programmable functions--you can also program the coffee maker's auto-shut off feature, choosing to leave it on for up to four hours if you like.
All of these neat functions are easy to use. Although the brewer comes with a handy set of instructions, the buttons and features are quite intuitive. The unit sits on a tiny set of wheels, too, for smooth swiveling around your counter top.
