If you clean your coffee maker routinely then calcium sediments most likely will not build up inside of the unit. If you don’t then you will notice hard components of calcium sediments accumulated around the inside of it. A water solution and vinegar can be used if you don’t have calcium build up. If there is build up inside of the coffee maker then you might need to find a good decalcifying detergent to get the job done right.

The first thing you will do is be sure a filter is not in the basket. If you have a permanent filter then you should be running that through the dishwasher every day or at least a few times a week keeping that clean.

You will fill the water reservoir with water and vinegar. Usually a couple of tablespoons are good enough to wash the coffee maker really well. Some people say you should use the same amount of vinegar as water but a couple tablespoons are sufficient if you take good care of your coffee maker. You will then run the coffee maker and let the solution brew through the unit. Then turn the coffee maker off when it is half way finished with the pot. You should let your coffee maker then sit for at least 15 minutes and then turn it on again. This time let the remainder of the solution brew through until it has completed the brewing process and there is no more of the solution inside of the reservoir.

If you choose to use a decalcifying detergent then you should follow the instructions provide on the detergent label. The process should be close to the same.

Once you have ran the solution through the coffee maker entirely you will dump the coffee pot and fill it with fresh water. Fill the reservoir and run a full pot of water through the coffee maker. This allows for rinsing away all of the vinegar so you don’t have any remnants making your cup of coffee taste like vinegar. Some people like to brew a couple pots of water to be sure they have all of the vinegar out of the unit.
