A review of the Tassimo Brewbot

Tassimo Brewbot Tassimo Brewbot

The Tassimo Brewbot is one of a new breed of "smart" domestic appliances that seems almost capable of thinking for itself.

For a while now we have had robot vacuum cleaners, pool cleaners, and lawnmowers. And now we have the Brewbot, a clever little machine that is able to read a barcode and correctly give you your choice of hot drink, quickly and easily from any one of seven different types.

The Tassimo Brewbot is quick and easy to set up out of the box. You just need to rinse some components and then do a dummy run, following which the machine is good to go.

The coffee maker uses the well proven T disc or pod system, and is not just for coffee. It can make tea and other milk drinks as well as several different kinds of coffee such as a cappuccino, latte, and crema.

The quality of coffee is excellent using the espresso roast, and you can add your milk product disc afterwards to get the different varieties. This does mean two operations are required for milky drinks but the process is so quick that this is not much of a hardship.

You can make your choice of beverage from various options from Maxwell house, Nabob, Suchard, Mastro Lorenzo, Carte Noir, Twinings, Kenco, and Gevalia, for example.

The big advantage of the Tassimo Brewbot is that you get the taste of real coffee in little more time than it takes to make a cup of instant coffee.

You don’t need to brew a whole pot of coffee just for one. You simply select your disc and pop it into the machine. The clever machine reads a barcode on the pod to enable it to make the perfect brew with the correct amount of water at the correct temperature.

The milk disc is manufactured by Kraft, and can produce convincing foam for a cappuccino, although one or two customers have declared the milk taste to be slightly less than fantastic. Most though, find it quite acceptable and love the buttery, smooth foam produced. It is essential of course, that the milk product is shelf stable and pasteurized.

The speed of operation of the machine is awesome, as it does not have to heat up a large tank of water. Your real cup of coffee is always just moments away. The coffee is hot, not lukewarm, and this is an advantage over some machines that produce a whole jug of coffee, since, by the time the jug is full, the coffee is all ready half cold.

Keeping a jug warm on a heated plate can lead to it becoming stewed, and poor tasting in a very short while. One slight disadvantage with the Brewbot is that you can’t take the disc out straightaway once the drink is made, but need to leave it a minute or so.

Another big plus with the Tassimo Brewbot is that the whole machine is modern looking and hygienic, with no long tubes to keep clean. The delivery of the coffee is straight from the T disc via a very short tube, into the cup. Clean up after your drink is just a matter of removing the pod and throwing it away. There are no messy coffee grounds to remove and dispose of.

This Bosch coffee maker is compact, so doesn’t take up much counter space. It is clean and functional looking, and you can jazz up the appearance with an interchangeable coloured back insert.

It has to be recommended as a very modern, efficient machine that is easy to use and good value for money. Bosch’s reputation means that it should be reliable too.
